Every week, Sheila Lloyd volunteers her time as a Reading Helper at Rosmead Central Primary School. At 87 years old, Sheila is one of our oldest volunteers, proving that you’re never too old to impart the gift of literacy and have a profound impact.
A former Science and Biology teacher, Sheila started volunteering three years ago after her granddaughter encouraged her to get involved. When asked what is most rewarding about being a volunteer, she said, “I found the children’s progress and development in reading the most rewarding. This has motivated me to stay on as a reading helper for help2read.”
Not sure if volunteering is for you? Sheila is adamant that we all have something to give. “Come and do it, as it will enrich your life and you will be amazed what you have to give to those learners. Everyone will have something to give to a learner who needs help in learning.”
