Nokuthula Ndinisa (42) started volunteering with help2read in 2014. “There was a need to help children in my community and also at a school outside of my area – hence I chose Bridgeville Primary School.”
Becoming a Volunteer Reading Helper exposed Nokuthula to the many challenges that learners face when learning, including mastering literacy. She used her experience as a Reading Helper and the help2read training she received to assist children in her community. “My experience as a Reading Helper motivated me to give back to my community where I live. I started an after school care where I help children of all ages with their schoolwork.”
According to Nokuthula, Volunteer Reading Helpers have a vital role to play in South Africa. She explained, “They can help their own children at home and give back to the community. Our country needs people to uplift the standard of education through programmes like help2read.”
