Josephina Phakathi, 26, joined the program as a literacy tutor in 2022. She joined the program with the goal of helping the community and learners to improve their lives through reading and learning.

Becoming a literacy tutor exposed Josephine to many of the issues that learners face when learning, including their abilities and literacy. She used her expertise as a Literacy Tutor and the Help2read training she received, to educate children in Diepsloot Primary.

Her work with Help2read has helped her fulfill her career goals, and watching learners improve and want to read more is the most satisfying part. According to Josephina, being a Literacy Tutor has an important role to play in the community of Diepsloot or in the world, since they may help their own children at home.
