Driven by a passion for and making a difference, Portia Nomalanga Mpofu (22) commenced tutoring English in 2022 at Diepsloot primary number 4. She is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of learners as she understands the importance of being literate.

Portia realized that there was a huge percentage of children in her community who could not read fluently, that is what gave her the zeal to join the help2read team so she could also make a difference. She reflected on how impactful the one-on-one sessions would be to the learners and how they would be an enriching experience. With 3 years of tutoring, Portia has reached this conclusion: It is worthwhile to help a child in need.
