Strong Finish for Team ABSA-lutely in ABSA Cape Epic
07 April, 2014
Dear all,
Well the Absa Cape Epic is now officially an event of the past and wow what an awesome race and experience it was. From day 1, the Prologue at Meerendal through day 8, finishing at Lourensford, Carlyle and I raced our hearts out. The weather played its part and we experienced heavy rain on stage 2 and heavy winds on stage 3, but wonderful sunshine on stages 5 and 6 and then more rain on the final stage. We managed to avoid any major mechanical issues and apart from a rib scare, some dodgy water in Greyton and some minor falls, bumps and scrapes we largely escaped unscathed and remained injury free.
We set out with the aim of beating our race number (160) in the over General Classification (GC). I am happy to report we achieved that finishing 120th overall, out of approx. 650 teams who started.
Our primary aim was however to raise money for Help2Read, and I am very pleased to say that we have raised over R80,000 to date. All your generous donations have helped us achieve this and we thank you for these. Many of you have already deposited your donations into the bank account. If you have pledged, but not yet deposited, please can I ask that you do this as soon as possible.
Kind regards
Geoff and Carlyle
