Reading Corner

29 January, 2019

“Congratulations!

Today is your day.

You’re off to Great Places!

You’re off and away!”

The help2read team has kicked off the year with the introduction of a new and exciting feature to share with all our readers and supporters on the first Tuesday of each month called Book of the Month.

We are passionate about books and reading; emphasising the value of reading and highlighting age-appropriate books for children is essential as we believe that learning is made easier when reading is fun.

This January, our Book of the month is the well-known title by Dr Seuss, “All the places you’ll go!” It is an inspirational book that articulates personal growth suitable for children as young as 4 years of age.  The book is filled with antidotes for the good times, the not so good times and provides endless motivation to stay on course when the “not-so-perfect” moments in life arise. Using clever, tripping rhymes, whimsical creatures and landscapes the book enables the reader to reflect on difficult life experiences while developing the idea of being one’s own hero/heroine.

“Because, sometimes, you won’t

I’m sorry to say so

but, sadly, it’s true

that Bang-ups

and Hang-ups

can happen to you.

You can get all hung up

in a prickle-ly perch.

And your gang will fly on.

You’ll be left in a Lurch.”

Books play a significant role in a child’s life; from learning about themselves through the characters, to providing reassurance as well as being fun holiday reads. We love this book because it has a good balance of positivity, silliness and timeless life skills teaching.

If you have a copy of this great book, please share pictures of it being read and keep a look out for the February book of the month.

Help2read’s staff member’s choice by Dr Seuss:
